Would anyone be willing to spend $5-$25 on a competition of skill to win a Rolex, Breitling, Panerai, IWC, Audemars Piget?

I am really loving the new IWC Pilot models. Are they different from the ones before? Any major price differences?

I’m looking for a Caliber 3185. I think I’m ready to build my own watch. Will entertain any reasonable offer.
- Mario Chargana · 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Is that the movement in the Rolex GMT?
- Dann · 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Indeed. I want the movement only and it is appearing to be extremely ambitious.
- Colin · 2 months, 3 weeks ago
How do you build your own watch? And how much would just the movement like that be?

I have a friend looking for a preowned 18KY Submariner. Anyone have any connections?
- Dann · 3 months ago
I don’t have a connection, but check these guys out. I like the price matching and 1-5 OEM warranty they do on their stuff.

I’m a little disillusioned tonight LTW community. I think there may be only one school that is independent of the Rolex backed SAWTA programme in all of America. I don’t think SAWTA is a bad thing at all; on the contrary, Rolex’s investment into American Watchmaker training probably saved the entire sector in this country, especially through the 80’s, but for the sake of the preservation of what knowledge was developed by the old RailRoad timekeeping companies of the 19th century, this seems like a huge loss to an enthusiast of that era/regional manufacturing. Any, I hope to, in the coming weeks either confirm or deny my suspicions. More later! Cheers – D

Looking forward to what you find out. Keep me posted. Cheers!

Doc – It seems that SAWTA a Rolex funded organization focused on training American students using the Swiss method of manufacturing and more importantly in the US, maintaining, luxury timepieces using the clout of the Rolex brand developed a certification that combines the best of both the American Certifying bodies and the WOSTEP training (Swiss) into a very small but well networked system of schools. These are usually part of community college programs with some focused programs in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The training seems to be significantly more in depth than in times past and more international than anything. Cost can run upwards of 60K for the best schools and lasts about two years.
All in all, Doc, I think this is a good thing. I think that the preservation of the movement and engineering is the important thing. There was nothing of importance lost in the American system of watch manufacturing. The good parts are still around – precision measuring, durable metals, etc. The bad parts- mass stamping and disposable manual mechanisms have gone away. And the fact is, there is a great deal of innovation available now because of intermingled methodologies. I think there might be room in the US for SWISS/GERMAn and ASIAN movements to be co-mingled in a new way. I think it would be fitting. I could see myself going to and SAWTA school as a later-day hobby/career.

I have thought about going in for watch making training as well. You are right though, maybe later in life when I am settling down.

Holy Smokes! Xetum in California has made a business out of two models bulky around an ETA movement. Personally, I think they’re priced right for growing the brand as well!
- Dann · 3 months, 3 weeks ago
built, not bulky. The auto correct on my phone is an absolute tyrant! lol
- breitlingcraig · 3 months, 1 week ago
I like the aesthetics of this brand. Have some similarity of Chronoswiss. How much are they?
- Dann · 3 months, 1 week ago
They’re pretty competitive. $1000-$1400 depending on the ETA, really. I like the clean look, but it is basically two presentations: 1)ETA 2824 and 2) ETA 2895.

Hello fans. Instead of reinventing the wheel, I thought I would share with you a couple of sites I visit regularly to learn:
1) NAWCC.org
2) AWCO.orgNothing fancy, but great history. Cheers!

Just was thinking that Bozeman styles their watches in such a way that their manufacturing style would compliment a world timer quite well. Probably could give GP a run! =) this side of the Atlantic, anyway!
Take a look at the hellcat style and let me know what you think. An outer rotation for the world time, a complication for the additional 24 hr. hand. This would be CLASSY!! http://www.bozemanwatch.com/hellcat/
- Evan · 3 months, 1 week ago
Dann… I really like this watch company Bozeman. I really like a lot of their models. Yes, I agree the 24 hour green hand is very nice. They have some similarity of Cuervo Y Sobrinos. Very cool
- Evan · 3 months, 1 week ago
I might buy one now
- Dann · 3 months, 1 week ago
I’m a huge fan, Evan. I will definitely get one at some point. I would say they my favorite brand after RGM.

@donsing Thank’s for joining, Don! I’m looking forward to helping US watch manufacturers get more organized and, hopefully, in the next twenty-five years, or so, develop their own standardizing body…someday…maybe.

I like your passion behind this. I would like to see that as well.
